GETSMART

On April 9, 2011, The University of Tampa (UT) hosted the latest GETSMART (Getting Everyone To Study Math and Related Technologies) program.   Girls from bay area schools came together with professors and area business women to discover more about the use of math, science and technology in today’s business environment.  Current and future interests in the fields of math, science, and technology were discussed before giving everyone a hands-on experience with a technology of the girls choosing.  Participants had a choice of playing a business simulation using the SAP ERP platform or taking apart a computer or using a light spectrometer.  After the hands-on experience, a follow up survey was given to determine whether interest levels had increased.

The day started by getting to know each other over breakfast.

Professionals from the community discuss career opportunities with the girls.

Participants could play business simulations, disassemble computers, or use a spectrometer.
